CUTTING CHAMPION SIRING WINNERS.
NCHA Derby Champion Seligman Spin is currently proving himself as a top sire of camp drafters as well showing potential as a sire in the cutting arena. Last weekend Peter Lamont rode Donell Park Cherry Oak to win the Maiden Draft at Monto. The mare scored a 91 in a run off. Although this is Cherry Oaks first win she and Peter have posted scores in the 90's on two other occasions. Many good judges rate this mare very highly and this win was not unexpected.

Peter & Robyn Lamont from Gin Gin QLD purchased this mare as a 2 year old

at the Rockhampton Quarter Horses Sale in 2005. She is out of a Celestial Dancer (TB) mare.

Cherry Oak is not the only Seligman Spin horse the achieve success on the camp draft circuit, Stewart Little placed 2nd at his first 2 drafts ridden by Peter Gesler. At Rathdowney they scored 86 points in the maiden then followed that up with an 87 to equal top score at Boonah the following week. The pair then finished second in a run off. Of course this is the same horse that recently sold for $15,000, an all time record price for a gelding, at the Elders Rockhampton Quarter horse sale . He was purchased by Peter Aposto from Victoria who intends to continue camp drafting him down there.

But it doesn't stop there, Kalvale Colonel Spin owned by John & Sarah McDonald, has placed in the first 5 drafts she started in for Sarah and another mare, owned by Marcus Curr of Mt Isa, Seligmans Remedy placed 3rd in a field of 215 in a maiden at Julia Creek  and has since won a youth draft with Marcus's daughter riding her.  She is rated very highly by good judges as well. All of these horses are from Seligman Spin first foal crop of 14 foals and are not yet 5 year old!

It should be of no surprise that this stallion would produce high quality Camp

Draft & Challenge horses as his Dam Lady in Red was a brilliant Camp Draft mare herself, winning many Open Drafts and by the immortal  Doc's Spinifex who has produced many champion Camp Drafters including the winners of the Warwick Gold Cup the Cloncurry Challenge and of course is the greatest sire of cutting horses we have ever had in this country.

The only horse to go cutting out of Seligman Spins first foal crop Kalvale Yellow Miss was a finalist at last years Darling Downs Futurity. Jason Leitch showed her at the Nebo Cutting on the week end for a 2nd on Saturday and 1st on Sunday in the Novice. Seligman Spin has a strong representation at this years NCHA futurity so keep an eye out for them.

Seligman Spin is a fine example of Australian bred cutting horses passing on their abilities to the next generation.
