southern cross cutting club cowra report

With 163 entries in ten events over two days the Cowra show was always destined to be a great event. When it became evident that the riders were “chewin dust” in the arena, the SCCC's major sponsor Jeremy Whitty from JGW stepped in and organized some extra water trucks to settle the surface.

The show had a great atmosphere with lots of locals, including former Miss World Belinda Green coming to have a look.  Belinda has competed in the Celebrity Cutting at the NCHA Futurity on 3 occasions and is fascinated with the sport.  Belinda now lives in the Cowra area.

The 500 head of cattle were supplied by Paul Agostino with 300 head being weaners which came from the Moss Vale store sale on their way to his property at Canowindra.

Peter Costello was the main organizer as Wattamondara (where the show was held)  is local to him and he did a great job with the arena getting together some event trophies from local suppliers.

Alan Hartley also donated a saddle to raffle for the club to raise funds which will be drawn at a later date.

Kim Cambell & sweet smokin hooch

73 was the winning score in five events with the imported stallion, Bank Fulo CDs taking out the Open and the $10,000 novice. The other 73's were the Australian bred stallion Sweet Smokin Hootch and Kim Campbell winning the Open Non Pro, the Smart Little Scotty mare, Iscottalittlecheecky ridden by Peter Grey in the $10,000 Non Pro, and J Steven Jones with Playin it down winning the $3500 Non Pro.

Bryon Young and Phil Webb commented on the
standard of the Snaffle Bitters noting how much
improved they were and how hard they were working. This event attracted the most entries with 33 competitors.

Anthony Walls entertained 'Team Dodge' & Co on Saturday evening with a Brazilian BBQ - beef ribs cooked slowly over a camp fire on a mesh grate held by 4 star posts.  Jimmy Vickery hauled all the wood for the fire from Bective Station at Tamworth!  All reports were that it was delicious.

Anthony proudly carved the meat with an incredible knife presented to him by a Brazilian gentleman - the knife was made from the melted down block of a Mercedes Benz.

The show programme ran brilliantly and allowed cutters to get on the road early Sun afternoon to head home from an enjoyable weekend of showing and camaraderie.

As reported earlier the S.C.C.C event will now be held at Bribbaree instead of Jugiong on the 17th and 18th of next month - the closing date for entries will be 8/5/08. All enquiries should be directed to Show Secretary Sally Bonello.
