CUTTING HORSES TOP ROCKY
Cutting horses topped two categories at this years annual Rockhampton Quarter Horse sale. Although usually held in the latter part of the year because of EI it was postponed until last week.

Despite interest being down “Stewart Little” a chestnut gelding by Derby Champion Seligman Spin topped the previous record for a Quarter Horse Gelding by selling for $15,000. The previous record price was $13,000. The gelding is out of the Little Peppy Doc Mare, Windaradeen Peppy Chick. On Tuesday the trained cutting mare Currell Sweet Sass fetched $30,000 to be the highest priced mare of the sale and was sold to Bob Wing of Amaroo Quarter Horse Stud. The mare is by Bobby Bo Lena out of the Docs Spinifex mare Eskdale West Little Sissy.

There were a total of 256 lots with 125 being passed in to post a total clearance rate of 67 per cent. The average price was $4556 per horse. Ridden Geldings averaged $3257 ridden mares and Fillies averaged $6208. Ridden Colts averaged $5159, Led fillies $4778, Led Colts $5273 and Broodmares $2913.

Word is that the timing of the show affected interest Northern Station buyers who usually come down for the sale couldn't make it this time as it is now the dry season up there and they have their camps set up.

For those who missed out on buying at Rocky or those who now have full pockets the justcuttin' sale barn has an impressive list of quality horses for sale but be quick because since Rocky the horses are now selling quickly.
