  Yass Show

90 horses preworked at Yass on Friday, finishing under lights in the cool night air, then Saturday’s program commenced early with 38 Snaffle Bitters braving the frost like Under 7’s Footballers. It was a little brisk for the interstate Judge, Richard Prew, but he handled the 200 show runs for the weekend in fine style, sitting atop his judges stand that resembled an Olympic Diving Board!

Women ruled - with the star of the weekend being Deb Wilson – winning both the $3,500 Novice Cutting (Built Like a Roc) and the Open Cutting (Get Together). Not to be outdone by her mum, Alexis Wilson who won the $10,000 Non Pro under lights on Saturday evening, in what was an event with some great cutting. Then Janie Vickery who traveled well into the night on Saturday to get there, took out the Open Non Pro on Winderadeen Sansmart, the following day. Kim Campbell took out the Novice Non Pro on Sweet Smokin Hootch. Sascha Mason won the $3,500 Non Pro with a 73.5 on Freckles Rogan. Three ladies shared equal first in the Rookies – Belinda Clark, Sascha Mason & Sue Wyse, all on a score of 72. Smart Little Tassa shown by Scott Campbell for Louise Schiller won the $10,000 Novice.

The Saturday program was interrupted by Club President Peter Costello when a special

presentation was made to long time member Klaus Schiller. Klaus was presented with a portrait of ‘Sennas Double 49’er’ (the bay mare he bred, sold to our yardman Bob Randell & wife Jan – who helps with timekeeping – and shown by Richard Webb to the 2007 NCHA Futurity Final). The Southern Cross Cutting Club, formerly the Yass Canberra Cutting Club owes much of its success to the dedication of Klaus in holding the position of Treasurer and Company Officer for many years. Klaus also presides over managing the PA system, clock & video at the Club Shows. Klaus is stepping down from some of his commitments with the Club, and he was acknowledged at Yass with heartfelt appreciation for his hard work.

On Sunday, Alan Hartley took centre stage to draw the winning ticket in the Cutting Saddle that he had kindly donated to the Club to raffle. The pictures tell the story – the winner was none other than ‘Dodge’ Lamey. The SCCC also greatly appreciates Alan’s support of the Club.

Richard Webb was the main organizer of the show and sourced 780 head of cattle from Brendon Abbey from ‘Bellvale’ Yass. A line of Brahman steers were selected for the Open Cutting. Energetic Club recruit Belinda Clark ran a BBQ during the pre-work as a fund raiser for the club which was greatly appreciated by all in attendance. The show attracted entries from as far south as Nar Nar Goon and north to Tamworth.
