SCCC BRIBAREE SHOW
Up until a month ago most of us did not know of Bribbaree – but after a fantastic weekend, how can we forget the warm hospitality of this small community in the Central West of NSW, 50k’s from Young.
Even the single digit temperatures and bitter weather on Saturday did not deter everybody from making the most of the competition. A total of 174 entries were handled by the ‘whispering secretary’ Sally Bonello & her offsider Belinda Clarke.
The enthusiastic Bribbaree folk welcomed the Cutter’s to their facility that is a credit to their hard work. They secured 450 head of cattle and began walking them in to the grounds on the Wednesday prior to the show – so by show day they just need a light brushing to settle.
The show came about at short notice when the Jugiong show had to be cancelled due to lack of cattle. The Southern Cross Cutting Club held their 2007 Buckle presentations on Saturday night in an old rustic shed with 80 in attendance enjoying the home-cooked Bribbaree banquet. Some folk then relocated to the Pub for a drink in front of their huge fireplace before retiring to the $15 a night accommodation. Who said Cutting was expensive!
Jason Stevens Jones from The Southern Cross Cutting Club presented the Bribbaree Committee with a cheque for $2,000 from cattle hire monies. Next year Bribbaree will have a permanent Cutting Arena erected and plan to hold another show in early April.
Bruce Holmes & Aaron Stevens Jones offered their services to judge and Scott Campbell gave them a break from the cold by judging the 32 Snaffle Bitters. This event was won by the lovely mare Acres of Diamonds ridden by Rodney Crump with the highest score of the show – a 75 – not bad for a Snaffle Bitter – Rodney also won the Rookies.
Our thanks to Bribbaree and all the Southern Cross Cutting Club members who job shared throughout the weekend to keep the program running smoothly and congratulations to all who placed in their events.
