BUFFALO RANCH GOES REINING.

Buffalo Ranch have recently announced the purchase of Reining Stallion RC Fancy Step. The handsome four year old Palomino Stallion was the Open Reserve Champion at the National Reining Breeders Classic and is by 2002 NRHA Futurty Champion Wimpys Little Step. His dam is Sonita Wilson by Doc Wilson.

RC Fancy Step will be the first reining horse to join the Buffalo Ranch stallion roster, which includes cutting horses TR Dual Rey and Hydrive Cat. Ranch President Shane Plummer said Buffalo Ranch had “been trying to tap into the reining industry for quite some time, but it’s been difficult to come to a good business deal with some of the stallions that we’ve negotiated on over the years.”

“Wimpys Little Step has impressed us for a very long time and then his first foal crop hits, and out jumps RC Fancy Step as by far his best son,” Plummer said.

Among his other gongs RC Fancy Step was 2007 Tulsa Reining Futurity Open Reserve CHAMPION, 2007 Ohio Valley Reining Futurity Open CHAMPION, 2007 Congress Reining Futurity Open CHAMPION, 2007 NRHA Futurity Open Finalist - Go Rounds WINNER highest cumulative score, 2008 Wimpys Little Step Derby Open CHAMPION, 2008 NRBC Classic Open Go Round 2nd Place and 2008 NRBC Classic Open Reserve CHAMPION - CHAMPION Stallion.

Plummer said the stallion’s bloodlines were “first and foremost” in the decision, followed by his looks and his show record. “Age was very important to us,” he added. “With what we know about the stallion business and what’s needed to make a successful sire, it was very important to us to buy a young one that we could start his breeding career the way we wanted to, not having to pick up where someone else left off.”

RC Fancy Step will remain in training this year and will compete in the NRHA Derby in June.

Plummer said no decision has been made on the horse’s show career after the NRHA Derby. “We want to continue to show him as long as he’s competitive, but we’re going to do whatever is best for him,” he said. “When we bought TR Dual Rey, we retired him when he was on top. With Hydrive Cat, we decided to breed him and continue to show him. How RC will do, we don’t really know. Each stallion is an individual. It depends on how good a mind he’ll have being collected and shown at the same time. All those will be factors, but first and foremost we’re going to do whatever we believe is best for him.”
