SQCHA Condamine Cutting.

Wow what a show. Over 250 entries plus close to 80 pre works spread over three days. Great cattle, great atmosphere, fun times. Condamine was a show full of new faces and old faces returning to the sport, competing alongside familiar faces from years gone by.

After a big day of pre works the full crowd was treated to a top field of Open horses on the Friday evening with the event being taken out by Prestige Cat ridden by Phil Dawson. Names such as One Roan Peptos, Destiny's Mr Chic, Do Rey Me, Oak and Ashes and Roysaboonsmal lined up to kick off what turned out to be a great show.

The folk from the Condamine show committee were as accommodating as ever and should be congratulated for not only being great hosts, but also supplying close to 900 head of fantastic cattle. Saturday not only gave spectators a feast of close to twelve hours of top quality cutting but it was also an ideal introduction for the new kids on the block to what it's like to compete in the sport of cutting. This show saw the return of a few cutting enthusiasts like Cheryl Fairbanks who traveled all the way from Injune near Carnarvon Gorge, Cheryl was competing in her first show in fourteen years. Apparently Cheryl and Robert just made it home in time before the skies opened and flooded them in.

Warren Makotek, known to all as that announcer bloke who does the Futurities, made his debut as a competitor, riding his new acquisition Double Spin. May I say his performance wasn't too shabby at all. Wazza was looking pretty good in the Rookies before losing his second cow but came back on Sunday to place in the $3500 Non Pro with a score of 71. Despite all the excitement he was also kind enough to help out by doing a short stint of announcing. It was small contributions like this, from an abundance of volunteers that truly summed up the spirit of this show.

Dean Hartog and Reg Nolan worked tirelessly all week end keeping the cattle coming through, Jill Busfield, Erin Lyons, Denise Ellis and Nicky Doolan also did a great job behind the microphone. Far too many names to mention but a big thank you to all of those who took a few minutes out of their week end to chip in to make this huge show run so smoothly.

It also goes without saying that the contribution from all the trainers was enormous and Paul Palmowski did a great job as judge. Thanks also to Craig Sim and Jonathan Dudley for giving Pauly a well needed break.

Those who have come to this venue over the years will note the ongoing improvements that have been made here, it's thanks to the folk of Condamine for their continued efforts to make this an annual “must” event. Condamine will be back same time, same place next year but the 2010 Condamine Cutting is going to be a hard one to beat.
