SQCHA Chinchilla Area 5 Work Offs Results, Pictures and Video.

It was the South Queensland Cutting Horse Associations turn to host the Area 5 Work Offs and presentations this year and the venue was Chinchilla. This show traditionally attracts great numbers with top trainers and horses attending in a last ditch attempt to accumulate some points and money to get just that little bit closer to winning a National Title.

Flooding up in North Queensland left a few competitors stranded affecting the numbers attending this year but all in all the quality was still there. Open Horse of the year Oaks Unchained Melody made her presence felt by coming second in the Open event after earlier in the day carrying owner Allan Hunter to his very first $3500 Non Pro win. Last years Open horse of the year Oak and Ashes was also there and justified Paul Palmowski's huge effort to make it to the show despite the floods. He and his team arrived at 1am Sunday to compete the next morning

Despite the lack of sleep Paul justified Jason Leitch's faith in him by riding Jason's horses to the quinella in the open event. Jason unfortunately was stranded and was unable to attend. Paul will also ride these horses at the Nationals as Jason has gone to the states to be involved in the tribute to legendary horseman Ray Hunt.

Todd Graham had his horses there too, One Stylish Pepto took out the $10,000 Novice on Friday night and then Todd won the Quinella in the $3500 Novice on Sunday morning riding Bay B Blue and You Can Bank On Me. Phil Dawson is a regular to this event and inched Dream chaser owned by Lenore Holborrow – Harvey closer to the $10,000 Novice title by coming second in that event.

The weather thankfully was cooler than in past years and combined with early morning and night time cutting to beat the heat, the show was pretty comfortable for horses, competitors and cattle alike. A big thank you to the shows major sponsor Chinchilla First National Real Estate, Bev Jenner and Robocutter for sponsoring the youth and Glenn Jones, Lucy Madden and Greg Lithgow for staying back after the show and helping with the taking down of the fencing. Also Lionel Davis was there at the end helping out as well as spending all managing the cattle. Great job Lionel.

This event was also the venue for the SQCHA's AGM. Show Secretary Sally Ferguson and Treasurer Caroline Elliot did not seek re election and those posts were filled by Rebecca Hudson as Treasurer, and Ray Cooper as Show Secretary. Craig Jones and Lloyd Nielsen retained their positions as President and Vice President. At the meeting the SQCHA remained committed to offering $500 added prize money to all NCHA affiliated events at all of their shows for the 2010/2011 show season. It will also continue to have $50 added to the Snaffle Bit competition. This is a great incentive to all and guarantees all competitors that if they win or place they will at least recover their entry fees with the prize money, not only that but it gives everyone in area 5 a great chance to win that coveted National title.

The clubs next event will be held at Condamine in mid april, this show too traditionally attracts large entries and top trainers.
