After leasing Lectro Lena San for two breeding seasons, Scott and Michelle Hartwig have purchased the imported stud and will keep standing him at their re-invented business HARTMORE Quarter Horse Stud
Scott Hartwig is no stranger to the Quarter Horse and Cutting scene and has a wealth of experience. After completing his studies at Gatton College , Scott expanded his knowledge by traveling around Queensland , Canada and the USA . From being responsible for breeding and scanning mares at the Royston thoroughbred stud in Beau desert Queensland to starting two year olds for US trainer Jeff Petska at Carol Rose Quarter Horses in Texas, to working with Pat Carol Quarter Horses in Oklahoma where he started two year olds on cattle in preparation for cutting competition.
Whilst in the US Scott purchased in partnership with his father Proud To Be An Okie. This stallions credentials as a sire are very impressive by siring both NCHA and NRHA Futurity champions as well as numerous camp draft winners. He himself was a winner in the cutting pen with an ROM in Cutting and Performance. Proud To Be An Okie passed away in February last year but his legacy will continue on through the many of his well performed progeny.
After leasing Lectro Lena San the Hartwigs were encouraged by the positive feedback and the high demand for Lectro Lena San progeny, in particular those crossed with Proud To Be An Okie broodmares. “We are particularly excited by about having Lectro Lena San in Queensland as so many of the other imported Quarter Horse Stallions seem to be in NSW, in particular around Tamworth ”. Says Scott. His progeny are already excelling in the cutting pen siring aged event finalists, Lectrosa Lena, The Sand Lady and Lectros Scooter.
The Hartmore Quarter Horse stud is located at Goolara siding, a 130 acre block situated 3 km north of Theodore on the Leichhardt highway. “We are a family based business encompassing a Quarter Horse Stud, a working dog breeding programme and a Brahman cross Breeding operation. We are also working on two new business lines; an on-line meat business as well as a farm stay experience for visitors.
