It's been a long wait for the folk at Toogoolawah, over six years in fact since a cutting came to their town. The locals weren't disappointed with what turned out to be a smallish show but the standard of cutting was truly exceptional.
The arena was extremely well preprared, with extra sand put into the arena and the young Brahmans were pretty good all week end. The saturdays herds were a little tricky at times but if you made clean cuts without too much herd disturbance you were in for a good showing. Sundays cattle were fantastic and the amount of high scores was a true indicator.
It was also encouraging to see the amount of youths competing at this show, on top of the larger than normal number of entrys the standard of cutting was a tribute to all who competed and rest assured the future of cutting is in good hands.
Of course this show also hosted the First Go-Round of the Sunkissed Quarter Horses Ladies Cutting. This turned out to be an awesome event with a lot of the less experienced ladies stepping up a notch and impressing. All the ladies were gunning for each other throughout the event, true testimony that the spirit of cutting as we know it is well and truly alive.

Young Brit Reeves, yes a youth, continued her good year by winning the first round with a 73.5. Lindsay Mulcahy and Fiona Tranter scored 73s with Jill busfield and Julieann Bulch sharing the rest of the points on offer with 72.5s .
For those still considering entering this event it's not too late to compete for a share of the $15,000 on offer with four go rounds to go. Go rounds two and three will be held at the Inglewood show the week end after next. Remember the top ten ladies will compete in the final at the Super Sires Stakes show being held at Uralla.
The guys at Eastern Falls are always looking at adding new things to events and Toogoolawah saw the introduction of a new equine sport called Fourty - Fourty. Local trainer Rick Kickham aboard Highbrows Doctor put on a great display for this new sport but more about that later.
The Eastern Falls events next show at Inglewood is bound to be a doozy apparently the facilities are first class and there will be some Al A Carte catering there as well. For more info click here. If you thought the North Star show was something special just wait and see. |
