Late showers on the friday afternoon made it touch and go as to whether this event was actually going to go ahead. The surface on Saturday morning appeared to be a bit greasy to say the least but after some shovel work and a delayed start the competitors decided to go ahead with the event.
Tony Pullen got off to a winning start on his recently acquired mare Sweet Essence wining the beginner Rider Class, Kym Rogan, Casey Mann, Matt Crimmins, Donna Flynn and Neil Flynn and Local Trainer Ronnie Mann were all in the winners circle on Saturday. With Donna Flynn and the most improved rider this year, Matt Crimmins winning Hi Point Female and Male riders for the whole show.
Matt took away the blue ribbon on Saturday in the $3500 Non Pro then blitzed the field on Sunday taking out all three events that he competed in Beginner Rider, Rookies and $3500 Non Pro.

other winners being Leanne Rose, Lucy Madden, Di Brombal, Matt Sly and Queensland trainer Glenn Jones.
Numbers were down compared to last years show and its a big thank you to Ronnie Mann and Glenn Jones for their experitise and continual help throughout the show. The trend of late seems to be that everyone is relying on the trainers to supply turn back horses and be herd help. This is now starting to make a big impact on the smooth running of these afiliate shows. And lets face it if you need to ring in the video operator to do some turn back work things are getting pretty grim. But thanks for the opportunity it was a barrell of fun.
Overall a good show but the decrease in numbers of entries is a worrying trend, it will be interesting to see what develops next year to see whether it was the economic climate that was the catalyst or whether something else is affecting the popularity of this great sport. |
